Georgie-Thon Week Two Wrap Up!

Georgie-Thon Week Two Wrap Up!

georgie-wrap-up-2We’re almost done with our Georgie-thon series read a long! Most of us are in the final book with books 5 and 6 this week. Some of us, (Sara) already finished the series last week.

Succubus Dreams Discussion:
For being a damned creature of hell, Georgie’s life is looking pretty good right now. Sure, she’s a succubus who has to sleep around in order to survive, and yeah she can’t kiss or have sex with her own boyfriend, Seth, without taking away some of his life, but who said life was fair? Besides, despite the fact that happily-ever-after does not seem possible for a succubus, being with Seth kind of just makes the rest of the bullshit in Georgie’s life better. Sure, she gets a lot of flack from her group of immortal friends but deep down Georgie knows they all care about her and want to be happy. But the hellish system is getting a re-org in Seattle and Georgie won’t be the only succubus anymore. Tawny, a brand new succubus who Georgie must train, brings a whole new problem to Georgie when her imp has to stay around Seattle until Tawny bags her first victim. Sounds easy, after all, Tawny is a succubus and she is training with the best. But, Tawny is such a horrible succubus that even Georgina might not be able to help. To make matters worse, Tawny’s imp, Niphon, also happens to be the same imp who bought Georgie’s soul all those years ago. All Georgie wants is for Niphon to get out of Seattle, especially when he starts to take a special interest in her relationship with Seth.

As if that weren’t bad enough, Georgie has begun to have these vividly real dreams about her and a possible daughter and husband. Dreams that drain her post-sex succubus energy. Which is crazy since succubi can’t have children…right??? Georgie knows there’s no way this daughter or the mysterious man of her dreams is possible, but she can’t help to cling on to hope. Richelle Mead, you are a cruel, cruel woman! Suddenly, all of this including Georgie’s knowledge of how fragile human life is, coupled with their endless sexual frustration, start to take a toll on her relationship with Seth. Sure, I saw the signs even though I refused to believe them, but I had a horrible feeling about Georgie and Seth. Still, I don’t think I was prepared for HOW it would all come together. Even after reading this book 3 times, it still hurts! Richelle Mead has a way of still completely blindsiding you even though you know, you know, what coming. That ending with Georgie and Carter was one of the sweetest most saddest things I’ve read. I love Carter! (no he isn’t part of a love triangle) I was one big pile of feels at the end of this book…

Some of my favorite non-spoiler quotes:

“Is it business or Seth?” asked Hugh.
“Seth.”
“Damn it,” swore Peter. He pulled some crumpled money out of his pocket and handed it to Hugh.
“You guys bet on my love life?”
“Yeah,” said Hugh. ”All the time. You should see the stakes we’ve got riding on when you and Seth are finally going to sleep together.”

He reached out a hand to help steady me, but I stayed out of reach.
“Are…are you okay?” he asked.
“I’m fine,” I said, breath heavy. ”But you aren’t. I got a little – a little of your energy.”
“A little is nothing.”
“Not to me,” I said, still keeping my distance.
“It’s not your energy,” he said. His eyes were still heated and hungry. “It’s mine and I think it was worth it.” He took a step forward. And I’d think it was worth it, even if I lost more.”

“Seth and I -”
“-are going to get married? Run off into the sunset? Have babies? Succubus! Wake up!” Dante was shouting, his face inches from mine. ”It can’t happen. Not for you. Maybe it can for him – but not with you. Every day you spend with him just ensures his life is going to be as empty and meaningless as yours.”
“That’s not true!” I screamed. ”We’re happy. We’re going to be happy together, and I don’t care if you don’t believe me.”

Succubus Heat Discussion:
It’s pretty much impossible to NOT start this book immediately after finishing Succubus Dreams. (I dare you to try!) So Richelle Mead pretty much tore out our hearts in the last book. But oh no, she isn’t done with us yet! She still has some more stomping to do on it. After the events of the last book, Georgie is not the same person I fell in love with in the previous books. This doesn’t mean I don’t love Georgie now because OMG, how I feel for her and love her all the same. Maybe even more! We definitely get a darker Georgie this time around. Georgie is hurt, and confused, and pissed the fuck off! While before, she only took her hits when she needed them, and tried to get them from scum guys (she couldn’t bring herself to take life away from the good guys), this time, she is out with a vengeance. Armed with a bad attitude, alcohol, cigarettes and an endless supply of victims in her wake, Georgie has pushed her luck too far when her bad attitude starts to annoy even her boss, Jerome. When he outsources her to the archdemon in Vancouver, this gives Georgie some much needed distance.

But when Jerome gets summoned and Georgie and all her Seattle-based immortal friends are cut off from their powers, her trip gets cut short. While her vampire friends are enjoying being able to go out into the sun for the time being, Georgie is left with frizzy hair from her lack of being able to shape shift. When Hugh points out that her shape shifting abilities aren’t the only power she’s cut off from but also her succubus stealing energy powers, Georgie (and me) can’t help but to hope. Now she can finally have sex with Seth without taking away any of his life. Too bad View Spoiler » Ugh, Richelle, I want to hate you for this!

Ugh, between Georgie’s new dark outlook on life, her ever confusing relationship with Seth, the loos of Georgie’s powers and the reappearance of an old character, this book was one big roller coaster of emotions! It’s intense and emotional. Then of course, there’s THAT moment which left us screaming ‘FINALLLLLY!’ It was so worth the wait…until Richelle had to go and crush us again. Do you hate us Richelle Mead??? The ending of this book was probably even more painful than book 3, because it gave us a glipse and flicker of new hope, only to be taken it away again. But rest assured, Richelle Mead does not in fact hate us and the pay off at the end of the series makes all of this so much more special.

Some of my favorite non-spoiler quotes from Succubus Heat:

“Hugh! We’ve all lost our…” I frowned, not sure what to call it. Powers? That sounded too Justige League. “…abilities.”

“I don’t care,” said Seth. “I would have done it. I would have sold my soul for you. You and me…I told you. Something’s always going to keep us near each other…”

“You can’t,” I murmured, swallowing the tears back with great effort. “You can’t keep saving me, can’t keep trying to. It’s too late.”
“No,” he said. His heart was in his eyes, and it was ripping mine apart. “Not for you. Never.”

“Georgina,” He murmured, pulling me closer. “You are the world.”

  1. “Georgie knows there’s no way this daughter or the mysterious man of her dreams is possible, but she can’t help to cling on to hope.” This dream broke my heart when I was reading this. GAhhh. Carter and Gerogina’s friendship is one of my very favorite things about this series :’) Hahaha, I know what you mean about FINALLLLLLY and then Richelel crushing our hearts yet again. That was a vicious move. I still love these books and I hope that the final books are just as good for you as always :)

    • I thought this would happen in book 4 and was crushed when it didn’t. Richelle Mead is evil!
And yeah, I love Carter and his friendship with Georgie. I’m clinging to hope that Richelle will someday write is a Carter/Roman/Jerome spinoff. She’s said she’s thinking about it but can’t do anything until she finishes her contracted books :(

  2. Poor Georgie! She sure has a rough life if she can’t make out with her bf without killing him. You’re making me want to finish this series asap, Nereyda. I will over the summer though.
    I love those quotes!

  3. Succubus Heat is definitely more difficult for me than Succubus Dreams because of all the constant Seth/Maddie relationship (even worse in Succubus Shadows with all the planning!)

The loss of power obviously has one HUGE upside but the ending is such a complete crash.

I couldn’t help myself and just finished Succubus Revealed — I needed the happy! And I don’t know how I forgot how awesome you know who becomes in the last books — so sweet and helpful and the sacrifice! Sigh, love love love this series!!!!

    • I love how in Succubus Heat, Georgie is so pissed about Seth in Maddie. It breaks my heart how she kind of accepts it in book 5. That makes it worse!
I had to wait for the final 2 books to come out so the endings of books 4 and 5 KILLED ME! It was torture!
I am so happy with how everything turned out in the end. Except for the Roman thing. He ended up being one of my favorite characters (and Carter). I still refuse to believe he’s dead.
Thanks for reading and sharing with us! I’m starting book 5 tomorrow! Bring on the pain again Richelle! #ImNotReady

      • Books 4 and 5 are PURE torture — the wedding, the engagement, the Christmas disappointments, UGH so sad!!

I really want to believe with you about Roman and I am going to hold eternal hope for a spin-off! How amazing would that be!!

I am working on my recap now — I am so happy about this re-read and that I still love this series as much as I remembered, probably more!!

  4. I think Carter was my favorite of the whole series. I mean, how can you not love him? I was so glad I could read book 4 was waiting for me on my kindle when I finished book 3. I had to know what would happen after that.

I like how you pointed out I finished already. HAHAHA I didn’t want to stop in between and I didn’t want to worry about other books at the same time! I just wrote a joint review for the series to post later this week. :)

    • Oh, I want to talk to you about this!
Did you know that Bastien was in the whole ‘keep georgie and seth’ thing away the whole time? Even in book 2? Both times he showed up, it was when Georgie and Seth decided to be together and Jerome magically gets Bastien flown in. That fucker. And Jerome! I know he’s evil and everything but I was so bummed that he was in on it too. I really liked his character and the relationship he had with Georgie. Roman! Holy shit, my heart broke for him in the last book. Sometimes I wanted them just to get together to at least find some temporary comfort. The end! Ahhhhhh! I refuse to believe he’s died. I think Hell has him locked up and maybe they are using like Jerome was planning to. Richelle has said a few times that she wouldn’t mind writing a Jerome/Carter spin-off series someday. I’m clinging to hope! I hope it involves getting Roman out of hell and I think it would involve Jasmin and Vincent. She mentioned something too about maybe Seth’s niece when she’s older (the one that senses supernaturals). Ah Seth! I knew (and I think everyone else did too) that he was Kyriokos since book one but I was NOT expecting him to be ALL those guys too! This made book 5 even more special-er once I knew the ending. I also never expected for Seth to have his own contract.
Maddie…oh how I wanted to hate her…I tried to but she was too damn nice.
Hmmmn, that’s all I can remember right now but there’s more. Anyway, thanks for reading with us and I hope you liked Georgie!

  5. Sooo need to read this series! I have the first one on audio actually! Love the title of this Georgie-Thon! Teehee!

  7. Oh man, I went through such ups and downs reading this series, hah. You ladies are so brave to read it again–and three times in your case! Richelle is the master with creating agonizing romances, isn’t she? So crazy how invested you get in her characters.

  8. I absolutely LOVE this series but I have failed miserably with the re-read-a-thon! :(

Richelle writes the most wonderfully flawed characters but boy did my heart break for Georgie so many times! A spin-off series would be amazing..
