Georgie-thon Week One Wrap-Up!

georgie-wrap-up-1There are not enough words to possibly convey how much I adore this series!  Thanks so much to those of you who are reading along with Megan and I!
This is my 3rd or 4th time re-reading the series and it just keeps getting better each time!  Richelle Mead carefully crafted this world and I keep catching new (and important) clues that I missed the other times I’ve read these books.  It’s very important to pay close attention to all the small details in this series.

Succubus Blues:
My love for Georgie and Seth (and the rest of the gang) grows more and more with each re-read.  To a new reader, things may starts off slow between Seth and Georgie, but for those of use that have read the series, all these little interactions are very important to their future relationship.  And their first meeting will always be one of my favorite moments from the series.

“Look, don’t get me wrong. I worship the ground this guy walks on. I’m excited to meet him tonight. I’m dying to meet him tonight. If he wanted to carry me off and make me his love slave, I’d do it, so long as I got advance copies of his books.”

“Kill me, Doug. Just kill me now. Put me out of my misery.”
“Christ, Kincaid, what did you say to him?” murmured Doug.
“Well,” I told Doug, “I ripped on his fans and on how long it takes for his books to come out.”
Doug stared at me, his expectations exceeded.
“Then I said—not knowing who he was—that I’d be Seth Mortensen’s love slave in exchange for advanced copies of his books.”

Georgina works for hell as a succubus.  Along with immortality and the ability to shape-shift, Georgie must sleep with men (or women, hell isn’t picky) and steal their life energy as part of her hellish contract.  But poor Georgie, all she wants is to be able to have a real relationship with someone.  Which is impossible when she’ll be sucking away their life every time they sleep together or so much as kiss.  So, Georgina has refrained herself from having any serious relationships.  She gets her fixes when she needs them and moves on to the next victim when the time comes.  Her guilty concience however, prevents her from sleeping with good guys and taking away their life.  The purer a soul is, the more life she drains from them, so Georgie sleeps with the scum guys.

Longing surged up within me. I wanted it. Oh God, I wanted it. I didn’t want to hear Jerome chastise me for my “all lowlifes, all the time” seduction policy. I wanted to come home and tell someone about my day. I wanted to go out dancing on the weekends. I wanted to take vacations together. I wanted someone to hold me when I was upset, when the ups and downs of the world pushed me too far.
I wanted someone to love.

“Wow. You look…really nice today. Did you do something different?”
Only a thirty-four-year-old virgin, I thought.”

When the mysterious Roman comes along, Georgie is conflicted and despite her ‘no dating’ rule, her defenses start to slowly break down.  I admit it, I was confused by Roman’s part in the book.  Why was he there?  Isn’t Seth supposed to be the love interest?  What are ou doing with him Georgie???  And, I wasn’t the biggest Roman fan.  But, after re-reading the books, I find that I like Roman’s character more and more each time I read it.  Do I want Roman with Georgie?  Hell no!  But I do like his character.

I really loved the ending of this book, that letter!  It gives me the chills and gives me hope for Georgie and Seth.

Succubus On Top:
Georgina and Seth are attempting a real relationship.  Sure, Georgie is still a sucubbus which means she still has to take victims.  Unfortunately, her succubus powers don’t come with an off switch which really puts a damper on her relationship with Seth.  Specifically the physical part.  If she so much as kisses Seth, Georgie’s succubus powers will steal his life force.  Even more so for Seth since he is one of the rare really good guys.  Georgie refuses to take any part of his life so they can’t kiss or have sex or anything in between.  Meanwhile Georgie has to have sex with other guys (Seth knows about this).  Oh what a cruel, cruel world!  The fact that they can’t do anything physical is really frustrating, especially for us readers since they have such amazing chemistry.  But at the same time, the fact that their relationship is so much more than just sex, makes it even more special.

Sleep with Seth Mortensen? Good grief. It was the most preposterous thing I’d ever heard. It was appalling. If I absorbed his life force, there was no telling how long it’d be until his next book came out.

Seth moved behind me, his presence steady and reassuring. Waiting to catch me, even though I refused to fall just yet.

The feel of Seth’s body curled by mine under the covers was tantalizing, a cruel whisper of the restrictions around us.

“You can’t honestly think you can have a future with him. Or that you two can stay chaste forever. For Christ’s sake, even if you can keep your hands off him, no human male’s going to stay celibate for long.”

“Hey, hypothetically-and I’m not offering this, so don’t get any ideas-would you, like, give up part of your life to sleep with me? Er, but I mean…not actually sleep…”
He laughed out loud, the laughter underscored with a wry edge. “Thetis, I’d give up part of my life to do any number of things with you.

“We’ve been sleeping together, you know. Literally. It hasn’t been a problem so far, but sometimes I lie awake watching him, thinking this can’t last. The longer it does…I feel like…like I’m standing on a high wire, with Seth at one end and me at the other. We’re trying to reach each other, but one misstep, one breeze, one side-glance, and I’ll fall over the edge. And keep falling and falling.”
Carter leaned toward me and brushed the hair away from the side of my face. “Don’t look down then,” he whispered.

Seth moved behind me, his presence steady and reassuring. Waiting to catch me, even though I refused to fall just yet.

As if Georgie didn’t have enough to deal with, her old friend Bastien (an incubus) comes to visit Georgie.  Bastien was charming but I couldn’t stand him!  Especially after picking up on some clues about him this time around.  And that scene?  OMG, I was metally screaming at my book and the characters!  It was like an accident that you couldn’t look away from…

Ah, Georgina…I love that Richelle Mead made her have flaws.  No way is she perfect, close from it.  He flaws only make me love her character even more.  I was happy to see that Georgie and Seth were able to find a…loophole…kind of.  But hey, I’ll take it!

There’s still time to catch up on this series!  Sign up here! We’ll be reading books 3 and 4 this week and all I have to say is this: be ready for the pain and the feels because Richelle sure brings it!  Don’t miss Megan’s Wrap-Up post!

  2. Hey you! I wanted to read this along with all of you so bad, but I have so much on my plate right now and had a high fever this weekend so I couldn’t have picked these up even if I jad wanted to *cries* However, oh my god. I love the chemistry between the good guy (finally, right?) and a bad girl. Sort of bad. I love their first meeting, I loathed Roman at first but oh dear lord he became such a favorite later on. Bastien? Fuck him, seriously. He is just.. GAHHHHHHH. I love Georgina so bad and I’m scared of the heartache you have to re-live when you get further in this series.

    • Yes to the amazing chemistry! OMG, it’s so good!
And Roman….ah, he totally grew on me too. I totally want a Roman/Carter/Jerome spin-off!
Carter is my favorite character, I loves him <3
And Bastien, that French fucker was in on the whole 'keep Georgie and Seth away' plot the whole time! That's why he was brought in in books 2 and 6. Georgie should have let him get relocated to Omaha!
I couldn't read it this time either but I'm listening to the audiobooks which I am loving! This girl does such a good Georgina and all the rest of these awesome characters :)

  3. I really enjoyed the first book in the series and the gang was super fun to be around. But I was frustrated that Georgie would probably never be able to sleep with Seth. LOL. Yeah, I’m a perv because I needed to see them get it on. I do need to get back to this series though.
Glad you’re having fun re-reading these, Nereyda!

    • Hey, you know I’m like that too! #pervsunite
It is so frustrating but they do find some loppholes, and when it does happen it’s so worth the wait!
Book one was my least favorite of the book (although I still loved it) only because it’s the ‘set up’ book. They get better and better.

  4. Yay for read-a-thons! I keep telling myself that I am finally going to do one and I just never end up doing so. Happy that these books are turning out so great for you, Nereyda!

  5. The infamous loophole! I love it! I especially love the photos/story exchange prior to the loophole too. So sweet!

I am seriously reading Succubus Dreams so slowly because I don’t want to be sad !!!

Thank you again so much for doing this read-a-thon — I am LOVING it! So fun to re-read this series with other people. When I read it the first time, there were no book blogs in my world and no one to discuss the books with. This is WAY better!

    • I had another book to read before but I’m starting book 3 then 4 soon. And yeah, no matter how many times I read it, it still hurts!
Same here! I had nobody to talk to about this series when I first read it. Such a shame that more people don’t know about this series…

  6. I had no idea about this series but after seeing this post, I will be adding it to my TBR! ;)

  11. Me and my friends were just talking about being succubus book virgins lol. I’ve always been curious about it but never really had that push to pick one up, I think I’ll check this one out. I’ve never read anything from Richelle Mead and I’ve seriously seen her name pop up everywhere today!
