“Sometimes two people have to fall apart to realize how much they need to fall back together.”
I absolutely fell in LOVE with Slammed! (Click HERE to read my review of Slammed) I didn’t think it was possible to love a book more than Slammedbut Point of Retreat managed to do that. I don’t even know what I could possibly say to convince you to read this book. If I could describe Point of Retreat in two words it would have to be: Butterflying Perfection!

Lake and Will have finally overcome the obstacle in their relationship and are able to be together. But not everything is perfect, for one they are both left to raise their little brothers: Kel and Caulder. This is another obstacle in their relationship that they must somehow overcome. They do the best they can, but they find it very hard when they are still young themselves. When Will’s ex girlfriend comes back in the picture and tries to weasel her way back into Will’s life, she makes Lake doubt their relationship. She starts to wonder if Will is with her only because he feels sorry for her. Unfortunately, this isn’t the only problem they face. Is their love strong enough to survive or will their problems tear them apart forever?

One thing I was not expecting was to read this from Will’s POV, which I loved! I loved hearing the story from Will’s perspective because his reasoning is so simple: They love each other, why is that not enough for the, to be together? that is what he has to make Lake understand. Although Will and Lake don’t have a normal family, I loved that they were able to surround themselves with friends and were able to form their own loving and dysfunctional family. All the old favorites were back such as Eddie (still love her) and Gavin, Kel and Caulder. There was also the addition of their brothers friend and neighbor, Kiersten, who is absolutely adorable and one of my favorite characters. Completing their group is Sherry, Kiersten’s mom. Together, they help each other when they need it the most.

Although there wasn’t as much slam poetry as in the first book, it still has a very strong presence. And the slam poetry that is in this book, is so damn good it will have you crying your eyes out. Although it is a tough choice, my favorite slam poetry is Kiersten’s poem: Butterfly You. (You will understand all the butterfly references when you read the book). Will and Caulder’s poems also had be crying like a little baby.

I thought the story in Slammed was an emotional roller coaster, but it was nothing compared to what this book did to me. Point of Retreat reaches new levels of emotional highs and lows that will leave your heart racing, palms tingling and make your heart plummet to the pit of your stomach. Point of Retreat is an intense story that is simply unput-downable. I was able to finish this one in about 5 hours too. When I finished, I was an emotional wreck but I also had that feeling of intense satisfaction that you get when you know that you have just read an amazing book. Slammed and Point of Retreat are books that I wish EVERYONE would read! Colleen Hoover is now on my MUST-read author list. Trust me, these are books that you do NOT want to miss!

5 out of 5 Butterflying Stars!

Some of my favorite non-spoiler quotes from Point of Retreat:

-“Oh, go butterfly yourself,” Eddie says. She returns a fry in Lake’s direction. I intercept the french fry, hoping it won’t result in another food fight, like last week. I’m still finding broccoli everywhere. “Stop,” I say, dropping the french fry on the table. “If you two have another food fight in my house, I’m kicking both of your butterflies!”

-She’s playing hard to get, which is pointless, since I’ve already got her. I play her game anyway.

-The cake is covered in white buttercream frosting. The writing across the top is done in blue. Happy Butterflying Birthday, Kel.

“Well, it’s not really a bad word,” I say.

Lake sighs. “I hate that they’re so damn funny,” she says. “It’s just gonna get harder, you know. We really need to start beating them now, before it’s too late.”

-Sometimes, when I watch her, it seems surreal that she’s mine. That she really loves me back.

-She wraps her legs tightly around my thighs, and we completely give in to our need for each other. I grab the back of her head and press her mouth into mine even harder. I can feel my pulse rushing through my entire body as we both begin to gasp for air between each kiss, as we suddenly foget how to breathe.

-“Do you want the good news or the bad news first?” I ask her.

She shoots me a dirty look. “Do you want me to punch you in the face or the nuts?”

-It’s worth all the aches,

All the tears,

The mistakes…

The heart of a man and a woman in love?

It’s worth all the pain in the world.

The “star” jar.

About the Author
Oh, man. Profiles suck! But, here we go. I’m addicted to and seriously floored by the talent of The Avett Brothers band, which is obvious in both of my books. They are 99% of my playlist. The other 1% being Eminem and Jason Mraz.
I love lindor truffles (the white ones with the chips inside) and have an unhealthy addiction to diet pepsi. A serious addiction.
I get stoked whenever I get a message from goodreads saying I have a new friend request…so request me, dangit!
