Review: Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover!

Lake and Will have finally overcome the obstacle in their relationship and are able to be together. But not everything is perfect, for one they are both left to raise their little brothers: Kel and Caulder. This is another obstacle in their relationship that they must somehow overcome. They do the best they can, but they find it very hard when they are still young themselves. When Will’s ex girlfriend comes back in the picture and tries to weasel her way back into Will’s life, she makes Lake doubt their relationship. She starts to wonder if Will is with her only because he feels sorry for her. Unfortunately, this isn’t the only problem they face. Is their love strong enough to survive or will their problems tear them apart forever?

One thing I was not expecting was to read this from Will’s POV, which I loved! I loved hearing the story from Will’s perspective because his reasoning is so simple: They love each other, why is that not enough for the, to be together? that is what he has to make Lake understand. Although Will and Lake don’t have a normal family, I loved that they were able to surround themselves with friends and were able to form their own loving and dysfunctional family. All the old favorites were back such as Eddie (still love her) and Gavin, Kel and Caulder. There was also the addition of their brothers friend and neighbor, Kiersten, who is absolutely adorable and one of my favorite characters. Completing their group is Sherry, Kiersten’s mom. Together, they help each other when they need it the most.

Although there wasn’t as much slam poetry as in the first book, it still has a very strong presence. And the slam poetry that is in this book, is so damn good it will have you crying your eyes out. Although it is a tough choice, my favorite slam poetry is Kiersten’s poem: Butterfly You. (You will understand all the butterfly references when you read the book). Will and Caulder’s poems also had be crying like a little baby.

I thought the story in Slammed was an emotional roller coaster, but it was nothing compared to what this book did to me. Point of Retreat reaches new levels of emotional highs and lows that will leave your heart racing, palms tingling and make your heart plummet to the pit of your stomach. Point of Retreat is an intense story that is simply unput-downable. I was able to finish this one in about 5 hours too. When I finished, I was an emotional wreck but I also had that feeling of intense satisfaction that you get when you know that you have just read an amazing book. Slammed and Point of Retreat are books that I wish EVERYONE would read! Colleen Hoover is now on my MUST-read author list. Trust me, these are books that you do NOT want to miss!
