Summary from Goodreads:

Sometimes you just have to take flight.

A summer in New Orleans is exactly what Allie needs before starting college. Accepting her dad’s invitation to work at his hotel offers an escape from her ex-boyfriend and the chance to spend the summer with her best friend. Meeting a guy is the last thing on her mind—until she sees Levi.

Unable to resist the infuriating yet alluring Levi, Allie finds herself at the center of a supernatural society and forced to decide between following the path she has always trusted or saving a city that might just save her.

This is a very vague summary of the book that really doesn’t do the book justice. Luckily, this tag line “Sometimes you just have to take flight.” Caught my attention. Not to mention that gorgeous smoking hot cover!

Allie takes her dad’s offer to work in his new hotel in New Orleans. To her, this is the perfect way to spend the summer with her best friend, Jess, before starting college later that year. After her latest lacking relationship she has sworn off guys. But then she meets the mysterious Levi. At first, she is determined to keep her “no guys” rule and she fights off his advances, which of course only makes Levi pursue her even harder. After realizing how much she really likes him, Allie decides to give Levi a chance. Besides, it’s just a summer fling. No big deal, right? Unfortunately for Levi (and Allie if she admits her true feelings) this is more than a summer fling, but she is determined to play it off that way. Allie is soon sucked into Levi’s intense and secret (and dangerous) world. It’s really hard to say much more than this without giving away any spoilers. I guess now I understand the vague summary.

I LOVED that the supernatural aspect of this story wasn’t about vampires or werewolves, it was something I have never read of before and I really enjoyed the different aspect of it. (I’m not going to spoil it for you) I really liked the fun and hot relationship between Allie and Levi. Although he definitely had his arrogant moments, he quickly switched gears and showed his sweet and romantic side once he knew he would have try harder to win Allie over. But Levi is hiding more than his share of secrets. Just when I thought I knew where the story was going, BAM! Alyssa does something that truly left me surprised. After that, I didn’t quite know what to expect and I just LOVED it! All I have to say is that Levi has a LOT of explaining to do in the next book. And that ending! I kept trying to get my Kindle to turn more pages because I was hoping that wasn’t the end of it. Needless to say, I will be picking up the next book in this series: Focus.

Books like this remind me why I love reading so much and why Indie books are quickly becoming my favorites. Flight has everything you are looking for in a book: a great lead character, a hot guy love interest, hot relationship with great chemistry, and a storyline with plenty of suspense and unexpected plot twist! It is also a very quick read. It’s not too short at 268 pages but I was surprised at how fast I read this. Before I knew it, I was done and was left wanting more. Until then, I have heard really great things about Alyssa’s Afterglowtrilogy. Now I just have to find time to read them.

4 out of 5 sparkly stars!

Some of my favorite non-spoiler quotes from Flight:

-Normally I would call a guy on mentally undressing me, but I was too busy taking my own inventory.

-“Does that line usually work for you?” I ribbed.

“Usually. I’m guessing it’s not going to work tonight.”

“Not a chance.”

“I’ll just have to get more creative.”

-“Not everything in life is black and white. Sometimes the best parts are gray.”

-The electricity between us sizzled as we walked hand in hand through Jackson Square. Without warning, Levi yanked my hand pulling me into Pirates alley, right off the square. Pushing me against the bars of the railing, he pinned one of my arms above my head. I held onto a bar with the other, steadying myself as he moved his face close to mine. With his other hand, he pulled me towards him.

-“Have you ever felt your life was just a series of mistakes?”

“Sure I have. I think that’s what we call growing up. But sweetie, we aren’t defined by the mistakes we make, but by what we learn from those mistakes and how we move on.”
