Fall For You: The Jane Austen Academy #1
By Cecilia Gray
Release Date: 02/10/12
Book Description from Goodreads:
Jane Austen meets Pretty Little Liars in this fresh, new young-adult series!
To say Lizzie and Dante are polar opposites is the understatement of the century. He’s a snooty Exeter transfer with more money than Google. She’s a driven study-a-holic barely keeping up with tuition. It’s obvious that Dante thinks he’s way too good for Lizzie. And Lizzie knows Dante is a snob with a gift for pushing her buttons.
But things are changing fast this year at the Academy. And when Lizzie’s quest to stop those changes blows up in her face, taking her oldest friendship with it, she has nowhere else to turn but to Dante, with his killer blue eyes, his crazy-sexy smile, and his secrets… Secrets Lizzie can’t seem to leave alone, no matter how hard she tries…

I’m embarrassed to admit that as much as I love reading, I have never read any Jane Austen books. I knew this story was a modern retelling of one of her books, but honestly I have no idea what Pride and Prejudice is about. Although it was nice that instead of constantly comparing the two stories, I was able to go into this book on a clean slate instead.
Lizzie attends the Jane Austen Academy, which up until recently has been an all-girls school. When the school was sold, the new owners changed a lot of things, including the admission of guys to the school. Most of the girls are excited by this new development, but not Lizzie. Lizzie’s main goal is to get into Georgetown and eventually the White House with her journalisms skills. She is however excited about being able to share a dorm room with her best friend Ellie. But a mix-up has Lizzie sharing a room with Anne, her former nemesis and Ellie sharing a room with Emma. Lizzie marches off to the new headmistress and demands that she share a room with Ellie. But when she is offered the top journalism position she agrees to the current room arrangements. Just how far is Lizzie willing to go to get to the top? As her friendship with Ellie starts falling apart, Lizzie starts to realize that Anne isn’t such a bad person. Out of all of the guys that now attend the school, no one catches her eye (and infuriates her) like Dante. When the new owners threaten to change the school’s name, Lizzie starts digging up information on the new owners. She soon realizes that some secrets are better kept hidden.
At first it was a little bit hard to like Lizzie because she was very one-track minded and also a bit judgmental. She dislikes Anne, Emma and Dante because she thinks they are snobby. But the more she gets to really know them, she realizes that she may have misjudged them and she comes off looking like the snobby one. But once she realizes that she was wrong about all these people, she really loosens up and it was easy to like her then. Dante and Lizzie had great chemistry and the story was intriguing. My only complaint was that I wish it were a little bit longer to give the story and the relationships more time to develop. At 128 pages, I would consider this more of a novella. The next book will be a retelling of another Jane Austen novel and will feature Ellie as the main character. I really want to know where this story will go and what will happen to the Jane Austen Academy and its students. Fall For You was a short and sweet story that you can read in a short amount of time.
3.5 out of 5 sparkly stars!
Cecilia Gray lives in Oakland where she reads, writes and breaks for food. She also pens her biographies in the third person. Like this. As if to trick you into thinking someone else wrote it because she is important. Alas, this is not the case.
Cecilia has been praised for “instilling a warmth and weight into her characters” (Romancing The Book Reviews) and her books have been praised for being “well-written, original, realistic and witty” (Quills & Zebras Reviews).
Several of her titles – including A Delightful Arrangement (The Gentlemen Next Door #1) and An Illicit Engagement (The Gentlemen Next Door #2) – have spent, in her view, a shocking amount of time on bestseller lists for romance, historical romance and regency romance in the US, UK, Italy and Spain.
Her latest release, FALL FOR YOU, the first in a series of young-adult contemporary Jane Austen retellings, received a starred Kirkus review and was praised for being a “unique twist on a classic” and offering “a compelling action of action, drama and love.”
She’s rather enamored of being contacted by readers and hopes you’ll oblige.
